What is a Health Payment Account (HPA)?

Paytient is a new type of benefit called a Health Payment Account (HPA) that helps you access and afford care.1

You can use your HPA card to pay medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, or veterinary expensesby tapping into a small line of credit to pay out-of-pocket costs upfront. After each transaction, you can choose an interest-free payroll deducted payment plan that fits your budget.

Where can members use their Paytient card?

Paytient HPAs can be used for medical, dental, pharmacy, vision, and veterinary expenses at both in-network and

out-of-network providers.HPA cards work at most provider that accepts VisaTM cards as long as the merchant's chosen MCC code is in a covered category (e.g., medical, dental).

How does an HPA work?

Say a Paytient member visits an ENT for a sinus infection that won't go away, and they leave with a $150 bill. Their HPA can split that charge into 10 payments of $15 -      or five payments of $30. For each transaction, our members pick an interest free payment plan that fits their budget.

Who can use my Paytient card? Can use it for my family?

HPAs cover care costs for members as well as their loved ones and pets.

Is a credit check required?

No. Paytient does not perform a credit check or pull credit scores before opening an HPA. We ask employees to self report income and expenses during onboarding before we extend credit to ensure we lend responsibly and comply with federal and state lending regulations. Some users may not be able to access the service due to applicable federal and state regulations.

1 Subject to approval.

The Paytient card works with providers in certain approved merchant categories. The provider self-selects their merchant category, and in some cases, a provider might not be categorized as expected.

Can make payments toward my outstanding balance outside of my paycheck?

Absolutely! While payroll deduction is the automatic payment method, you can always make one-time payments towards any transaction on your Paytient card within our app using a linked alternative method such as a bank account, debit card, or HSA/FSA card.

How does an HPA work with an HSA or FSA?

Using your HSA and FSA cards to repay your Paytient balanceare great ways to capitalize on tax advantages. You can add your HSA or FSA card as a payment method in your Paytient account and then use them to cover any qualifying expenses. HSA and FSA accounts cannot be used to pay for veterinary expenses. Please refer to the IRS website to determine whether transactions qualify as HSA/FSA expenses -                                       and remember to always keep your receipts!
